D evotional service is always blissful and ever increasing and that is the sum of ISKCON's growth. Therefore, with the increase in preaching and the establishment of ISKCON centers all around the world, Srila Prabhupada longed for a temple to be constructed in Mayapur, following the desire of his Guru Maharaja, Srila Bhaktisiddhanta Saraswati Thakura, who had always stressed the importance of Mayapur. In fact, Bhaktisiddhanta Saraswati Thakura used to stay and perform his bhajana over here at Mayapur before he set out to preach extensively. Srila Prabhupada wanted his disciples and the members of his society to take shelter in this holy dham. Finally, in 1971, ISKCON signed a land deal for a nine-ha plot in Mayapur. Though faced with several setbacks and challenges during the procuring times, the land was finally secured by ISKCON and thereafter, as visualized by Srila Prabhupada, the construction began to give shape to this wonderful community we all know today.
There are many attractions in Sri Dham Mayapur that attracts the heart of thousands of people across the world encapsulating the enchanting deities of Sri Radha Madhava and the eight principled Asta Sakhis, The Pancha Tattva headed by Gauranga Mahaprabhu, Sri Nityananda, Sri Adwaita, Sri Gadadhara and Sri Srivas Pandita, Sri Prahlad Narasimhadev, the Temple of the Vedic Planetarium, Srila Prabhupad Pushpa Samadhi, the Goshala, Srila Prabhupada Bhajan Kutir, the full dome theatre, the ‘Campus’ itself, Vaisnava Samadhi temple, Nagar Campus Sankirtan and the yearly breathe taking Elephant Procession.
ISKCON Mayapur has been very instrumental in preserving many of the visions of the movement such as actively propagating the movement through its various preaching outreach programs, Book distributions, Nagar Sankirtan and Food for Life programs.
