Welcome to the Radha Madhava Community!

The Radha Madhava Community is a colorful community with ISKCON residents coming from many different parts of the world and India. Our residents accept His Divine Grace A.C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada as their ultimate authority and guide on all matters, and live by the philosophical and behavioral guidelines set by him. Devotees who would like to become a member of the Radha Madhava community are required to apply for residency at the MCS office upstairs in the Community Hall. To serve our residents effectively, the Mayapur Community Sevaks (MCS) has been established.

“If you live in Mayapur then you are living in the Spiritual world, and if you die in Mayapur, then you go back to the Spiritual world. – Srila Pabhupada in Mayapur

Bound by abundant nature, Sri Mayapur is a beautiful oasis of approximately 600 acres, situated in the heart of West Bengal. Having broken numerous records, Mayapur houses several architectural feats including the longest building in Kolkata and the largest dome in Asia with the upcoming largest temple in the world called the Temple of Vedic Planetarium. More than 350 feet high, this project includes a temple hall with a capacity of 5000 devotees and a Vedic planetarium describing the universe according to the Vedic cosmology.

The community itself provides spiritual upliftment to visitors and its 7,000+ residents, service opportunities, education for local stability and growth, community medical services and food distribution to those in need. We welcome everyone who wants to live or visit Sri Mayapur Dham as our community is very ethical, diverse and spiritually inclined.

History
The international Society for Krishna Consciousness (ISKCON) was founded by His Divine Grace A.C. Bhaktivedanta Swami (Srila Prabhupada) in the West in 1966. ISKCON belongs to Gaudiya (refers to Bengal) Vaishnavism, a devotional tradition based on the teachings of Bhagavad-gita and Srimad-Bhagavatam.

ISKCON’s history includes a disciplic succession (sampradaya or guru parampara). It draws its legitimacy from its place in a succession of spiritual teachers and disciples (parampara). There are four major disciplic successions, and ISKCON belongs to the Brahma-Gaudiya-Madhva (referring to Madhvacharya [A.D. 1239-1319]) sampradaya, founded by Lord Krishna Himself. The other three are called the Sri (referring to the goddess Laksmi) Sampradaya, the Rudra (referring to the god Shiva) Sampradaya and the Kumara (referring to the four Kumaras [celibate sages] Sampradaya.

ISKCON receives these teachings through the precentorial line known as the Brahma Madhva Gaudiya sampradaya. This well-established traditional succession descends through the respected teacher Sri Caitanya Mahaprabhu (AD 1486–1534), the full incarnation of Sri Krishna, whose philosophy and practices unify the teachings of all four major Vaishnava Acharyas: Sri Madhvacharya, Sri Ramanujacharya, Sri Vishnuswami and Sri Nimbarkacharya.

ISKCON embraces the chanting of the holy name of Krishna as a primary practice and accepts the concepts of transmigration, karma, vegetarianism (ahimsa), worship of the deity (Shri Vigraha), and the preceptor-disciple (guru-sishya) relationship. Initiated members vow to refrain from gambling, illicit sex, intoxicants and non-vegetarian food.

In this way ISKCON faithfully continues the core traditions of the Vedas. ISKCON’s teachings are nonsectarian and non-denominational since they are not limited to any particular historical religion. Vaishnavism inculcates the essential and universal principle of all religion. That principle, called sanatana dharma, denotes the natural and eternal activity of all living beings: loving devotional service to the Supreme Personality of Godhead.
