Sravan Utsav (10th – 12th February)
Śravaṇa Utsav — the Festival of Hearing — has become one of the most cherished highlights of the Mayapur Gaura Pūrṇimā Festival. Just after the official inauguration of Gaura Pūrṇimā, Śravaṇa Utsav is the first major event to open the festival season. Its purpose is simple yet profound:
to set the spiritual mood for Gaura Pūrṇimā through deep hearing.
For three auspicious days, devotees gather to hear from exalted speakers: sannyāsīs, and senior devotees. Each day includes two nectar-filled sessions, morning and evening, filled with:
- philosophical discussions
- realizations and reflections
- question-and-answer exchanges
- scriptural insights
- Gaura-kathā and līlā narrations
The atmosphere is vibrant yet intimate — a festival of hearts coming together to listen, learn, and absorb the teachings of Śrī Caitanya Mahāprabhu. Many devotees say Śravaṇa Utsav “sets the mood” for their entire Gaura Pūrṇimā experience.
During each session, prasādam is served to all participants, creating a warm and uplifting atmosphere where devotees not only hear together but also honor maha-prasādam together. This combination of hearing and honoring creates a perfect beginning to the month-long festival.
