TOVPE Screen Writer

TOVPE Screen Writers are responsible for the creation of original movie screen plays for use in the 23-meter dome theater housed inside the Temple of the Vedic Planetarium. TOVPE Screen Writers are also responsible for narrative content for exhibits within the Planetarium, which include scripts, dialogue and ancillary thematic content for advertising.

Education / Experience

  • BA or comparable degree.
  • At least three professional writing credits. This may include a purchased screenplay, or published book or article.
  • 4+ years of relevant work experience.
  • Experience writing screenplays or teleplays.
  • You should be able to write and think cinematically.

Required Skills / Duties + Responsibilities

  • Develop and research ideas for original movie screenplays, and exhibits.
  • Create an initial framework, or treatment, for screenplays.
  • Write or adapt a story into a script.
  • Meet with creative team to pitch screenplays and ideas.
  • Weave together visual elements in scenes with plot and dialogue.
  • Work with creative staff to edit and adjust the script as needed.

Technical Skills

  • Proficient with Microsoft Word, Final Draft, Scrivener, or comparable writing software platform.

Pluses: 

  • BA or higher degree in humanities, film, journalism, or creative writing.
  • Knowledge about, and experience in, screenwriting for movies, and museum exhibits
  • Experience as an educator, leader, or manager. Anything that evinces strong interpersonal skills.
  • Experience working with artists from other disciplines.
  • Proficiency in Adobe Editing Suite is a major plus.
