Srila Prabhupada: “… in the whole Nadia, this part is very sacred, Mayapur Candradoya Temple. So by Krishna’s grace, you have got this opportunity to live here. Take advantage, full advantage of this opportunity, spiritually fortunate”. (From lecture on Caitanya Caritamtita Adi 1.15, Mayapur, April 8, 1975)
Lord Caitanya Mahaprabhu is the moon who had risen over the lands of Mayapur, a little over 500 years back, and by whose mercy, and empowerment, this Krishna consciousness movement has now spread its aura over the entire world. Many devotees from all over the world comes to Sri Dham Mayapur to stay permanently, or just during the festival times to melt their hearts and souls through the mercy of the Holy Dham and get spiritually recharged. ISKCON Mayapur arranged guesthouses in order to serve the devotees who arrive from all over the world, to take darsan of its enchanting deities and seek shelter of this Cintamani Dham. The mesmerizing deities of Radha Madhava and Asta-sakhis enchant the hearts of one and all. The Pancha Tattva deities of Lord Caitanya, Sri Nityananda, Sri Advaita Acharya, Sri Gadadhara Pandita and Srivasa Pandita also provide their all-merciful darsan here at the Mayapur Chandrodaya temple.
The opulence of the Iskcon Mayapur project has been successful in highlighting to the entire world the significance of this exalted abode and the gravity of the Krishna consciousness movement. As more and more people, from different backgrounds and nationalities are being attracted to Mayapur and are accepting Krishna consciousness as a way of their life, the more the timeless prediction of Lord Caitanya comes to be fulfilled -’In every town and village, the chanting of my holy name will be heard’(prithivite ache yata nagaradi grama, sarbatra prachara haibe mora naam). This is exactly what Srila Prabhupada had desired when he had laid the cornerstone of the Mayapur Chandrodaya temple.
Srila Prabhupada states that grihasta ashram is meant for regulating the human mind so that it may become peaceful for spiritual advancement.Grihastha ashrama is “griha stitha ashrama” or in other words, a place where one has taken shelter of the Lord by staying in a home, living with family members but keeping Lord Krishna in the centre. One of the important duty of the grihastha ashrama is to beget Krsna consciousness child, and to sustains and preserves all the four äshramas. In Mayapur Dham the householders live inside the community, or nearby. Everything is compact and close to reach by walk, bycicle or bike. Prasadam is not missing, at any times we can purchase delicious preparations in some of the points inside or near the temple, and twice a day close to the temple a tasty kitchadi prasadam is distributed to the visiting pilgrims. The Bhaktivedanta Academy, Sri Mayapur International School and The Bhakti Vedanta National School are options for education of the children in Mayapur. In the Bhagavad-gītā (18.44) there is a clear injunction that cows should be protected: kṛṣi-gorakṣya-vāṇijyaṁ..”. In Mayapur the goshala is providing this service, by producing agricultural products, trade and giving protection to cows. The Bhaktivedanda Hospital situated near the temple provides medical assistance to the devotees. Recently built Mayapur Fulldome Project gives a 360° full dome theatre experience where any visiting pilgrim to Sri Dham Mayapur can relax and have an opportunity to have a spiritual show.
Why do we come to Sri Dham Mayapur? Srila Prabhupada advices grihastas to spend some time, or to live, in Mayapur, and also explained that the results of all devotional activities performed in the Holy Dham are magnified a thousand times. Therefore, we can make rapid advancement if we live offenselessly in the Holy Dham. But if we commit offenses, the results of those offenses are also magnified one thousand times. Therefore, we have to be careful not committing any offenses in the Holy Dham! One of the reasons why we decide to be here is that we can easily make progress in spiritual life, and put Sri Krishna in our life as the centre, to educate our children in a safe and Krsna consciousness atmosphere. Wherever we meet with the devotees, we address each other by saying “Hare Krsna, Haribol!”. In the “outside world” to be a devotee it’s just a part of our day, because we have to deal with the non-devotees all the time. So whoever comes to Mayapur can feel this effulgent spiritual vibration and easily connect with Krsna through the association of the Holy name, the Holy Dham, the darshan and the devotees. Many courses and workshops are going on during all the year, so that the devotees can improve and expand their knowledge in Krsna consciousness. There is no time to get bored here! So we suggest to our dear devotees to come and this joy in Sri Dham Mayapur!
