Gita Jayanti is the birthday of Bhagavad Gita. It is believed the “Bhagavad Gita” was revealed to Arjuna by Sri Krsna Himself in the battlefield of Kurukshetra just before the start of the Kurushektra war.
Gita Jayanti is celebrated worldwide by all devotees of Lord Krsna.
It is generally observed by congregational recitation of all 700 verses of the Gita chanted throughout the day. Devotees also fast on this day since it is an Ekadasi day (Ekadasi is the eleventh day of the waxing moon and waning moon – it occurs twice every lunar month and is observed by fasting from grains and lentils (peas, beans, dhals) by those who seek to progress spiritually. Bhajans Kirtans and Pujas are also held on this day.
Here in the Holy Dham of Sri Mayapur, Online Gita course for congregational devotees ended in a 3 day seminar and certificate were distributed on the auspicious day of Gita jayanti.
So all together, more than 4 thousands devotees sat down in the crowded temple room and chanted together all the Gita verses. It was an amazing experience to chant along with thousands of pious people, many of them wearing the “Nama Boli’ an orange chaddar with The Maha Mantra written all over. The atmosphere was peaceful and rejuvenating.
Fire Yajna was also observed and prayerful smiling faces could be seen observing the yajna from every corner of the temple room.
It was like a new beginning for all chanters and a way to reinforce their self realization. Everyone was happy and later joined in the usual more than captivating Kirtan.
In Gita Bhavan, a wonderful program was organized and HH Bhakti Purosotam Maharaj gave very special and personal class specifically directed to congregation members who’s number is growing at an amazing speed around Mayapur.
Outside, thousands of books were distributed by our Mayapur devotees for the pleasure of our most dear Srila Prabhupada.
