There was a Kirtan Mela Program at Krishnagar Rathtala on 09-05-2014, Where 18 devotee took part including 15 foreign devotees. This program was specifically for the purpose of collectively chanting of Hare Krishna mahamantra with different musical instruments, where more than 500 Krishnagar local inhabitants joined in that assembly. The whole campus was full of local devotees dancing along with the foreign devotees. The management committee had decorated the stage very nicely ample seating arrangements for the local participants. This type of program is called ‘Kirtan Mela’. In Caitanya Caritamrita it is said,
“Kali yuga dharma haya nam sankirtan chari yuge chari dharma jiver karan.
Suna Mishra Kali yuge nahi tapa jagna jei jana Krishna bhaje tar mahabhagya.
Ataeva kali yuge nam jagna sar nam haite haibe sarba jagata nistar”
International Society for Krishna consciousness (ISKCON), under the guidance of His Divine Grace Srila Prabhupada, is spreading this mission of Sri Caitanya Mahaprabhu for the benefit of the people. This program continued for 3 hours. To our good fortune, we got His Grace Mahatma Prabhu, who is very famous for his soft Kirtan, was very much liked by His Divine Grace Srila Prabhupada. H.G. Mahatma Prabhu led a harinam on the stage and conquered the hearts of everyone, filing them with the transcendental bliss of chanting. Everyone was happily chanting and dancing.
Apart from Harinam Sankirtan there was Srila Prabhupada’s book distribution to the local people.
We served mahaprasad for all the devotees and participants. The whole program completed successfully.
