Siva Ratri
Lord Siva is the topmost Vaisnava. In Navadvipa Mandala, Lord Siva is worshipped as shetrapala or guardian of the holy dhama. In Madhyadvipa, he performs the pastime of riding on the carrier of Brahma (Hamsa) to very quickly arrives to hear pastimes of Lord Caitanya. He is worshipped in this island as Hamsa Vahan Siva. He protects the Antardvipa- the holy birth place of Sri Caitanya as shetrapala at Yogapith. There is also reference of Siva dhoba in Navadvipa Dhama Mahatamya. At Koladvipa, he resides under an old banyan tree at Paromotala. There is also an island dedicated to Lord Siva in Navadvipa, Rudradvipa. At Simantadvipa, he resides along with his consort Simantini devi .
Recently here at Rajapur Sri Jaganntha Mandir ( which is situated in Simantadvipa), celebrating Sivaratri, devotees bathed Lord Siva with milk, yoghurt, honey, Ganga water, offered with love and several bael leaves, along with unlimited garlands. HH Candramouli Swami, HH Nava Yogendra Swami, HH Bhakti Dhira Damodar Swami, HG Jananivas Prabhu took part in the festival, along with many other senior devotees.
Lord Jagannath, Baladeva and Subhadra, having been dressed very gorgeously, happily offered Their Maha Prasada and garlands to Their dear most devotee Lord Siva. The festival began with glorifications by our senior devotees telling various past-times of Lord Siva. This was followed by wonderful dramatic performances enacted by a group of Russian devotees visiting for the Gaura Purnima festival. The Dramas included Siva-Parvati Lila, and Ramayana. The exalted vaishnavas then gave our Shiva lingam a royal bath including various auspicious substances. Everyone was then served a wonderful feast of prasadam.
Sada-Siva incarnated as Advaita Acarya, and with his intense prayers, he called Lord of Vaikunta to appear in the material world to freely distribute the love of Godhead to one and all. He also helps one to overcome from the mode of ignorance, giving supreme benediction of engaging in the service of Lord Krsna. In the same mood of compassion, Srila Bhaktivinoda Thakura and Srila Bhaktisiddhanta Saraswati Thakura revealed Navadvipa Dhama. Our Founder Acarya, Srila Prabhupada made that mercy accessible to all of us by developing the spiritual city of Mayapur, announcing it as headquarters of ISKCON. He gave us the wonderful Mayapur Gaura Purnima festival, where annually over 5000 devotees congregate at the holy land of Mayapur, to go on Navadvipa Mandala Parikrama, hear, chant and sing the glories of Sri Caitanya in Sankirtan.
