Today is the famous Santipur festival, also known as Govinda Dwadasi. Devotees from Mayapur set out early to visit Santipur in large numbers. Several buses filled up, children to adult very joyfully rushing to catch the their buses.
Shantipur festival has always been a key part of ISKCON Mayapur’s Gaura Purnima festival for many years. Historically it was enacted by the fifteenth century saint Advaita Acharya in honor of the Disappearance Day of his guru, Madhavendra Puri. Since then, it’s been held on that sacred day every year. It is here in Shantipur festival, once when Lord Caitanya participated and declared that,” whoever honors prasada here on the disappearance day of Madhavendra Puri will receive Govinda Prem”.
This topic of Lord Caitanya Mahaprabhu declaring that anyone who honors prasadam on this day at shantipur will receive Govinda prem was distinctly emphasized on by almost all our respected speakers. There is no doubt about the mercy of Sri Caitanya Mahaprabhu on us.
We thank all the devotees who have contributed for the prasādam distribution. In the Caitanya-bhāgavata, Lord Caitanya said that anyone who takes prasādam on this tithi at Śāntipura will get Kṛṣṇa bhakti!
So many devotees are going to Śāntipura to distribute prasādam. I would usually go but since my health is compromised, I don’t think I will take the risk. (HH Jayapataka Swami Maharaj)
