Sri Navadvipa Parikrama Day 2 -Surabhi Kunja

T he temple Hari Hara, was the first place to receive the devotees. HH Maha vishnu swami led the devotees into the adequate mood by singing the song : “ mahadeva panca mukhe rama rama hare hare”.

There the first katha was held. We had the special presence of HG Pankajanghri Prabhu. Several speakers flooded the devotees with nectar. Pankajanghri Prabhu told the story of how the devotees would come here and do two simultaneous kirtans one side was chanting prayers to Lord Shiva and the other was reciting Purusa sukta.

It is a unique temple, having one dome adorned with a Chakra and the other with a trident, established by the late King of Krishna Nagar in order to bring harmony among the Shivaites and the Vaishnavas.

HH Bhakti Nityananda Maharaja amazed the audience with an astounding lila which happened between 1999 and 2002 wherein the deities of Hari Hara were stolen and after being found, kept in the custody of the police in Krishna nagar. The head magistrate of the police stationed happened to be a distant relative of Srila Prabhupada. Within 18 months the deites returned.

Then to everyone’s surprise HH Jayapataka Maharaja who was listening to all the kathas online, start addressing the devotees in a live voicecall. We felt he was there, specially when he recalled the main points of each speakers katha and praised their service and knowledge. Maharaja shared the pastime of the discussion between the parrot and Mahaprabhu. Despite Mahaprabhu’s protest the parrot continued “Goura Goura! You can chant whatever name you want. I know you are Radha and Krishna combined so I will chant Goura Goura!”

From there HH Bhakti Dhira Damodar Maharaj led us in kirtan past Gouradaha towards Jagannatha Temple where we took breakfast.

Just around the corner a mystical cenario awaited the pilgrims at Surabhi Kunja. As the hall filled up gradually and consistently. On the platform in front of the altar like a transcendetal rock star Agnideva Prabhu hailed: “ Khoda Nitai Khoda Nitai” the response pervaded the entire atmosphere beyond the walls and the ceiling. Yes we were in the right place at the right time praying to the right person.
“Lord Nityananda Himself opened the market place of the Holy Name in Surabhi Kunja. These are great news. This merciful Sri Nityananda is giving the pure Holy Name simply by the price of one’s faith.”

Soon after, wrapped in deep devotional feelings the devotees wacthed on as the delhi devotees got on stage to perfom a drama which told the story on an incident that happened with Bhaktivinod Thakur: “The confrontation with the powerful but malicious yogi.”

Then devotees reached the supremely gracious Naimisaranya and thus moved from Godrumadvipa-the island of Kirtan to Madhyadvipa-the island of Smaranam.

To tie up the day HH Lokanatha Maharaja gave the evening class. With all these treasures in their hearts the parikrama devotees, received their muri bags and hot milk on their way to rest, in great transcendental bliss.
