Kartik in Mayapur
“In the month of Kartik, which is very dear to Sri Hari, one who bathes early in the morning attains the merit of bathing in all places of pilgrimage. Anybody who offers the Lord a ghee lamp in the month of Kartik, O brahmana, becomes free from all kinds of sins, such as killing a brahmana, and he goes to the abode of Lord Hari.” (Brahma Khanda). As Satya-yuga is the best of yugas, as the Vedas are the best of scriptures, as Ganga is the best of rivers, so Karttika is the best of months, the most dear to Lord Krsna – Skanda Purana. Kartik is the best, the purest of purifiers, and most glorious of all months. Kartik month is particularly dear to Lord Sri Krsna. This month is full of bhakta vatsalya. Any vrata, even the smallest, will yield huge results. The effect of performing a Kartik Vrata lasts for one hundred lifetimes, whereas ordinary vratas only last for one lifetime! Srimati Radhika is the presiding deity of the holy month of Kartik.
This is the month of Damodar Lila. There were two factors that combined to allow Mother Yasoda to bind Lord Krishna: one was her hard labor, and the other was Krishna’s mercy. The acharyas explain that when these two elements combine — the devotee’s hard labor and Krishna’s mercy — Krishna allows Himself to be bound by His devotee.”
At Mayapur, Kartik is very intense with devotees around the world visiting the dham to observe the holy month by engaging in different devotional activities like taking bath in Ganges, offering lamps to Damodara, performing panca krosa Mayapur Parikrama etc.
On the disappearance day of Narottam Das Thakur, students of all the schools in Mayapur, took part in the Narottam Prem kirtan, organized by Mayapur Chandras, a Maha harinam in the Panca tattva temple from 10 am to 2 pm.
Bahulastami or appearance day of Radha-kunda, devotees went on Parikrama to Caitanya Mutt to have their snan at Radha-Kunda and circumambulated both the kundas in great devotion.
“Why is Radha-kunda so exalted? The lake is so exalted because it belongs to Srimati Radharani, who is the most beloved object of Sri Krishna. Among all the gopis, She is the most beloved. Similarly, Her lake, Sri Radha-kunda, is also described by great sages as the lake that is as dear to Krishna as Radha Herself. Indeed, Krishna’s love for Radha-kunda and Srimati Radharani is the same in all respects. Radha-kunda is very rarely attained, even by great personalities fully engaged in devotional service, not to speak of ordinary devotees who are only engaged in the practice of vaidhi bhakti.” Today being Rama Ekadasi, 24 hours Harinam is going on at the temple. More promising festivals are lined up… Deepavali, Govardhan Puja, Gopastami,Srila Prabhupada disappearance day etc.
At Rajapur , Jagannath Mandir, everyday Deepdhan festival is also being celebrated.
