J anani Radha mataji, known among the Mayapur community as ‘Gopaler Ma’, left her body on 8th October , after battling with cancer for eight months. She is a long term resident of Sri Mayapur dhama and for around 26 years, she has been engaged in the seva of offering Tulasi arti for matajis section. Any regular visitor to Mayapur dhama, would have seen a Bengali mataji carrying ‘Gopal’ and going around in the temple and campus. She led a very simple life, fully surrendered to her beloved Gopal, whom she lovingly carried wherever she went and to her spiritual master Srila Jayapataka Swami and Srila Prabhupada. Last month, she was admitted at Bellevue hospital, where she was diagnosed with terminal cancer and eventually she was brought back to Mayapur. She was at Bhakti Vedanta Hospital Center at Mayapur. Devotees kept visiting her throughout the day and Kirtan, japa and reading of Srila Prabhupada’s books were going on. And finally , on 8th October, amidst the devotees chanting and by the side of her Gopal and Tulasi maharani, with the room full of pictures of her spiritual master, Mayapur deities, she entered into the eternal abode of Gopal. Her body was carried in a procession around the campus and final rites were carried out at Prabhupada Ghat.
