ABOUT THE SPEAKER
Sri Srimad Subhag Swami Maharaj was born in the year 1940 in Kolkata, spent most of his early life in Kolkata and completed his college from Scottish Churches College in Calcutta where in 1916 Srila Prabhupada had studied English, Sanskrit, Economics and Philosophy. In 1965 His Holiness left to study BE in London. While studying there His Holiness was introduced to Krishna Consciousness and soon joined Radha Londonisvara temple in its early days. He joined ISKCON in 1971. From the first meeting with Srila A.C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada, His Holiness was engaged in Srila Prabhupada’s personal service (like cooking, serving prasad, answering correspondence, etc.) and also engaged in different other services in ISKCON. Swami ji has been based in Sridham Mayapur for the last 36 years of his 40 years in ISKCON. He is one of the present gurus and prominent among the very senior leaders in ISKCON traveling worldwide. Specifically, under the direct instruction from Srila Prabhupada, swami ji translated different scriptures from Sanskrit and Bengali to English and also from Srila Prabhupada’s many books from English to Bengali, including Krsna, the Supreme Personality of Godhead, Teachings of Lord Kapila, Prayers to Queen Kunti, Easy Journey to Other Planets, Matchless Gifts, Teachings of Lord Caitanya, Isopanishad, Nectar of Instruction and On the way to Krsna. Swami ji also translated Caitanya Mangala from Bengali to English, a popular book among followers of Bhaktivedanta theological tradition. He is presently working on translation of Ananda Vrndavan Campu written by Srila Kavi Karnapura from Sanskrit to English.
