One day in the month of November in 1977, His Divine Grace A.C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada suddenly began to shed tears lamenting about the dilapidated condition of many of the temples founded by the followers of Lord Sri Chaitanya Mahaprabhu. At this time, he expressed his desire that a trust be established for the purpose of renovating these ancient holy places. Accordingly, on 5 November, 1977, the Bhaktivedanta Swami Charity Trust (BVSCT) was officially formed to renovate and develop the old temples of the followers of Lord Chaitanya Mahaprabhu as well as to reunite the Gaudiya Vaisnava Samapradaya, especially the disciplic descendants of His Divine Grace Bhaktisiddhanta Saraswati Thakura Prabhupada.
