Two important festivals are going on simultaneously- Srila Bhakti Siddhanta Saraswati Thakura’s appearance and Srila Gour Govinda Swami’s disappearance day.

Many of the GBC’s and deputy GBC’s have arrived in Mayapur. Today is the opening session of deputy GBC’s. We are happy to welcome, HH Devamrita Swami, HH Bhanu Swami, HH Vedavyas Priya Swami, HH Lokanath Swami, HH Bhakti Vasudeva Swami, HH Bhakti Brhat Bhagavat Swami, HH Hanumat Preshak Swami, HH Birkrishna Swami, HH Vigna vinasana Nrsimha Swami, HH Romapada Swami in Mayapur. It is very special to have darshan of all these wonderful disciples of Srila Prabhupada especially after the Mangala Arthi, when they all sit together like ‘Saffron lotuses’ and chant their japa. It is also very beautiful to see the loving exchanges between these god brothers and god sisters.

Bhakti Siddhanta Saraswati Thakura’s appearance day celebrations began with lecture by HG Jananivasa Prabhu on the glories of Maharaja, with special reference to his development of Mayapur dhama. At noon, there was pushpanjali to Bhakti Siddhanta Saraswati Thakura in the Pancha-tattva Mandir and Arti by Lokhanath Maharaja. A big course of feast with varieties of vegetables, sweets and cakes were offered and we broke the fast with the Mahaprasada.

Srila Prabhupada on his Guru Maharaja:

“When my Guru Maharaja was present, even big, big scholars were afraid to talk with even his beginning students. My Guru Maharaja was called ‘living encyclopedia’. He could talk with anyone on any subject, he was so learned. And no compromise. So-called saints, avataras, yogis-everyone who was false was an enemy to my Guru Maharaja. He never compromised. Some Godbrothers complained that this preaching was a ‘chopping technique’ and it would not be successful. But those who criticized him fell down.”

HH Gour Govinda Maharaja, on this day, entered the eternal pastimes of his beloved Gopal Jiu in Sri Mayapur dham. Maharaja’s Pushpa Samadhi is in Mayapur, which was beautifully decorated today. A bright red rose garland was offered to Maharaja and his picture was carried by his disciples in kirtan procession to Samadhi Mandir where Pushpanjali & Guru puja took place. After that, a day long glorifications and special lecture sections are happening at Panca –tattva extension hall. Maharaja took the instruction of his spiritual master Prabhupada to translate his books in oriya as his heart and soul. He established the famous Sri Krsna-Balaram Mandir in Bhuvaneshwar , happily undergoing severe austerities to carry out his guru’s instructions.
