Special Opportunity from Mayapur
by Naru Gopal Das, SMVS Vice Chairman
Sri Mayapur Vikash Sangha (SMVS), is a project started by ISKCON Mayapur, which helps provide education, healthcare, and means of livelihood to the local dham vasis. Registered as an official NGO in West Bengal, this organization has been running for more than 10 years, receiving grants from funding agencies worldwide (including the United Nations).
The spiritual benefit that one receives from serving the devotees of the Lord has no limits. Lord Krsna Himself states in the Bhagavatam “mad bhakta puja abyadhika”, which Srila Prabhupada translates as, “take it for granted, that if you worship My devotee, that is more than my devotional service”. It was also the desire of our movement’s spiritual grandfather, Srila Bhaktisiddhanta Sarasvati Thakur, that the local dham vasis receive such care and help. He himself donated land specifically for opening schools and hospitals. The current Bhaktivinod Institute, a primary and secondary school outside the ISKCON campus, was built on that land.
SMVS has run and is running many successful projects. However with only one personnel available for gathering funds, many of our projects await grant approval or are cut down to fit minimal budgets. Currently SMVS is in need of a devotee who can help raise funds or write grant proposals. If you are somehow inspired and interested in taking advantage of such an opportunity, please contact us at mayapur.smvs@gmail.com for more information. By serving the devotees one is sure to have all obstacles removed from one’s spiritual life.
