A major annual pilgrimage event in India, like Kumbhamela, millions of pilgrims assemble at Ganga Sagar, the place of confluence of mother Ganges with the ocean. Lord Kapila deva’s ashram is located here where He instructed His mother Devahuti on the absolute truth.
ISKCON Mayapur’s third year at Ganga Sagar Mela, we distributed 70,000 pilgrims prasada, provided free shelters, blankets and medicines. Inaugurated by HH Bhakti Purusottama Swami and Mr.Sanjay Bansal (A.D.M), additional facilities and programs are added year after year to benefit the pilgrims.
Apart from taking care of physical necessities, everyday Harinam party set off through the island distributing holy name and volunteers distribute books and encourage the pilgrims to take part in Harinam. In the evenings, all through the five days, Yajna or fire sacrifice was performed by Gurukula boys. Many enthusiastically participated in the bhajans, arti and enjoyed watching the cultural program & spiritual films.
As these pilgrims take enormous amount of austerities or tapasya to visit this holy place (many come by walk too), to serve these Hindu pilgrims is spiritually rewarding. It is a retreat for Mayapur Institute students who are always busy with a busy classroom schedule and assignments and it is more inspiring to see the students taking keen interest in Harinama Sankirtana and book distribution.
If you have missed this year, don’t miss to take part in this most spiritually uplifting experience next year. In 2010 Ganga Sagar Mela, HH Bhakti Purusottama Swami will be holding three day seminar on the teachings of Lord Kapila Deva, in the sacred place where He spoke those supreme teachings to His mother.
We thank all the donors for extending their support to make this event a success!
